The exclusivity of salvation

This Holy Week, the world is remembering Christ's substitutionary death, burial and resurrection. The world may not understand its significance, but they understand that love is the reason. It is the Church's opportunity to explain to the world that this death solves the problem of sin. No one will go to hell because of sin. A person goes to hell if he rejects Christ as Savior.

One of the misunderstanding regarding salvation is our role in receiving it. Many people believe that salvation is something that is earned by merit- avoid sins, live righteously and be faithful until death. Others think salvation is by joining their religions, undergoing their rituals and faithfulness to the Church. Others add works to faith in Christ. You need to believe and work. Salvation is 50% your work and 50% Christ's.

None of these save a man. Jesus is the exclusive Way to God. He is not one of many ways. He is the ONLY way.

The only condition to have eternal life is faith alone in Christ alone, John 3:16; Acts 16:31; Eph 2:8-9. Eternal life is a gift. You don't work for a gift. It is God's grace received by faith. Adding works to the condition is saying that Christ's work is not enough. You need to supplement it. You need to add into it. This is an insult.

If you can save yourself by your own merit, Jesus did not need to die at the Cross. He died because there is nothing you can do about it. He died because He loves you and He didn't want you to go to hell. He did all the work of salvation and all that is left for you to do is believe in Him.

Use this week to meditate on Him. Believe in Him and be assured of eternal life.
