Love people, use things; not the other way around

This is not an endorsement of Buddhism. But I like the thought expressed in this meme.

I guess you don't have to be a Bible scholar to realize that we're to use things responsibly and love people unconditionally.

It is sad that a Buddhist expresses what is clearly a Christian view.

Unfortunately most people, even among Christians, do the reverse- we love things and use people.

In many Christian community, we have believers who love things. Our church attendance is a silent witness to how our brothers and sisters exchanged worship for "the love of things." Instead of assembling together with other believers to love and edify each other (not to mention worship God by learning His thoughts), many believers are out in the world serving mamon. I am not referring to Christians who occasionally absent because of work or study. I am referring to those who habitually use our liberty in Christ to exhange worship for money.

As someone says, "I look for the world and I find it inside the church, and I look for the church and find it in the world." When there is no difference between the world and the church, the church loses its testimony.

Love of things is common in our churches.

Unfortunately the other thing is common too- using people. Many churches use people to expand itself. Rather than use the ministry to enlarge the people, people are used to enlarge the church. This too is a sin.

We should do the reverse- God gave us all things to enjoy and love is the badge of Christian discipleship. We have to use things for the glory of God and love people for the same glory. When we make things the object of love, we're doing the exact reverse of God's will. We can call it reverse object reversionism.

It's not too late. We can still learn to love people and use things to show that love. When we see our brothers in need and we give them material things to meet the needs, this is a strong testimony to the world. The world will take notice and glorify God because of it.
