Prayers for enemies
Matthew 5:10-12,44-45 [10]"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [11]"Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. [12]Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Disciples and the World
[44]But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, [45]so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
1 Peter 3:8-9 [8]To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; [9]not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.
This is the 5th instalment of prayers, Nieto-style.
I will be honest, I don't like this part. But if there is one thing I learned from the Bible is this: whether one agrees with the Bible or not, what is says should be obeyed.
Jesus Himself said that we have to bless (huwag mong murahin o siraan) your enemies and pray for your persecutors. This is a command and not a request. As a good Christian, we have to obey. For why call Jesus Lord if you're not going to obey?
Sino ang mga kaaway. They run the gamut from persons I have disagreements with to people who are the enemies of Christ. They may not have harmed me personally but if they're against my faith, they're my enemies. Not personal enemies but faith enemies.
How do I pray for them?
Definitely not by praying na mamaga ang kanilang mga tiyan! (This is an inside joke sa church). God will not hear imprecatory prayers in this dispensation. On the other hand, ilang buwang sumakit ang aking tiyan at ako ay nag-LBM so maybe may nagpe-pray laban sa akin!
On a more serious note, I started by naming enemies and asking God na punuin Niya ng biyaya at pagpapala ang kanilang mga buhay upang hindi nila ako maalala at hindi nila kalabanin ang Iglesia ng Diyos.
My theory is simple. If they're busy counting their blessings, they will have no time for me. They will be so busy that they have no time to devise a scheme to harm me. Also if they're busy counting their blessings, they won't have time to persecute the church.
Our church is formed because of a split. It is natural that there are elements that wanted to harm us.
