Perfect timing

In boxing, as well as in life, perfect timing is everything. Perfect timing wins wars, lands a project and earns prizes. And if you have been a Christian for awhile now, I am sure you have many experiences of how God came through at a perfect timing.

The problem is we have our own timing. James wrote of certain people who made plans apart from God: James 4:13 [13]Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."

James condemns this kind of man. He reminds him that you don't even know how long you will live or if you will even be alive tomorrow. This is just boasting, pride, on our part. This is our way of playing God.

Instead James admonished, James 4:15 [15]Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."

Our job is to know God's will and align our plans and desires along that will. That includes time orientation.

Sometimes we rushed things. We wanted results without undergoing the process. God created everything in His own time. Everything is beautiful in His time. There is a time for everything, the Preacher reminds us.

Just us we cannot rush the morning, we can't rush life also. We should learn to do our best and rest in Him, relaxed that He knew what He is doing and if you desire in Him, He'll give you the desires of your heart.

Most of the stress that we experienced is a result of trying to play God. We forgot the Creator/creature distinction and we act as if we're God. We want results now. We want promotions now. We want success now.

But God is more interested in developing character in us than giving us success because He played the long game. He is raising Christ-like future rulers in the Kingdom and this life is only our training area. We're being trained to develop grace, poise, discipline, perseverance and humility to prepare us for our future rule as Servant-Kings. If you take things your way, you're losing the privilege of being trained as future king.

As Iceman said to Pyro, "You shouldn't have left school."

So take things slowly. The reason God didn't give us all the information about the future is so we won't stress about them but live one day at a time. We develop strength as we live one day at a time. Seen this way, God's delay is an act of mercy and a teaching act.
