Heading for disaster and yet choose to party

 

In Daniel 5, we have a very foolish king, Belshassar. He's surrounded by the Medeans and Caldeans. Instead of preparing for the siege, he chose to party. In addition, he chose to blaspheme the living God. That same night, as interpreted by Daniel, the city was taken and he was killed. 

Madali sa ating hatulan si Belshassar. What was he thinking? Didn't he know the importance of planning ahead? 

Yet millions and even billions of people are on the way to a far terrible future and most are not preparing. Like Belshassar, they chose to party, to eat, drink and be merry. They marry and they are given in marriage. The world is oblivious to the danger ahead. 

There is a lake of fire waiting for anyone who died without Christ. 

Instead of preparing for that disaster, the majority are living a life that has no God in it. Even those who claimed to believe in God live as if He didn't exist. Lasciviousness and licentiousness are the order of the day. 

Many of those who see the handwriting on the wall prepared by trusting in themselves. They think they can save themselves by joining a religion, by doing good works, by indulgences or by being faithful (or at least promise to be faithful). They think they can avoid the lake of fire by not sinning. 

Nothing that we do can save us from that lake of fire. The only One who can save is Christ.

And He did save us by removing sin as a barrier between God and man. No one will go to the lake of fire because of sins. The only reason people will go to the lake of fire is because they rejected Christ. 

The one and only condition to receive eternal life is faith alone in Christ alone. He Himself promised that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life, John 3:16. 

Why Christ? He's the One who died for our sins, was buried and resurrected after three days. No religious leader did that for you. No religious rituals can remove the sin barrier. You cannot remove the sin barrier. 

Jesus did the work of salvation at the Cross. The only thing left to do is to receive this salvation by believing in Jesus for it. 

The only condition to receive eternal life is to believe in Jesus. Not joining a religion, not doing good works, not giving money. All of these are good, but they're not good enough to earn eternal life. Only Christ can give life, and only faith in Him will access it. 

This "Holy Week," meditate on these things. Have you believe in Jesus for eternal life? If you haven't, do it now. You can have assurance of salvation right now.
