He suffered and died for me
This week the world will commemorate the suffering, death, burial and resurrection of Christ. I am not really a fan of rituals but the Holy Week is one of the few that I think should be adopted by Christians.
Sure there are many unbiblical practices that surrounded the week. Redeeming the culture means adopting what can be reconciled with our Christian convictions and rejecting those that contradict it.
Jesus suffered and died at the Cross not for His own sins. He is sinless and impeccable. He died because He became the world's substitute. Let's make it personal. He died for me. If I am the only person in the world or if I am the only sinner in the world, He'll still die for me!
How could I not value Him who died for me?
He died to remove the barrier of sin. No one will go to hell because of sins. He'll go to hell for rejecting Jesus Christ.
Anyone who depends on his own merit, on his own righteousness, on his own religion, on his own works to earn eternal life is effectively saying that Christ's work on the Cross is not sufficient. He's saying that the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ is not enough. They have to add to it. They have to improve it. They need to replace it.
This is a great insult to Christ's perfect work. Religion did not die for you. You did not die for you. No one died for you. Only Christ died for you.
The only condition compatible with God's grace is our faith in Christ. The only condition for receiving eternal life is faith alone in Christ alone.
Grace in salvation is incompatible with human works and righteousness. Romans 11:6 is clear that grace and works cannot mix. Romans 4, Ephesians 2:8-9 and Titus 3:5 support that assertion.
The best that the world can give is just a dirty rag. The only thing that Jesus will accept is our faith in Him.
Have you believed in Jesus for eternal life? Do so before the dispensation of grace runs out and the dispensation of the wrath of God, the wrath of the Lamb arrive.
