Function comes from position

Be holy for He is holy.

That is the goal for every Christians. We wanted to reflect the Father's holiness

But when it comes to execution, Christians don't agree. Many focused on behaviour management. I guess because it is easier to see and Christians can be so performative.

Many Christians think that holiness equals the number of Bible studies you attend, the prayer meetings you joined or the length of your prayers. I beg to disagree. Many unbelievers do this, and most are even more faithful than Christians because they think this is how they are saved.

In the words of a very wise theologian, long dead: Anything that an unbeliever can do is not the spiritual life

The spiritual life requires a supernatural execution and that is why we need the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, we can't live the spiritual life.

At point of salvation, the Holy Spirit puts us in Christ, and we share His eternal life, His holiness and His sonship, among many other things. Positionally, we are holy!

We have the seed in us that if we nurture by faith (consistent intake and application of Bible doctrine) will manifest experientially as righteousness. Not self-righteousness but righteousness that comes from and glorifying to God. Not mere behavior management but total alignment with God's grace

The spiritual life is grace.

It is daily appropriation of grace to daily life. In the words of Paul, grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and live sensibly, righteously and godly.

It is not a series of boxes that we check but the development of the fruit of the Spirit. It is forming Christ in us. That is when people look at us, they can see Christ - gracious, truthful and holy.

This is not sinless perfection but a daily transformation to Christ-likeness.

God declared us righteous. Spiritual life is living that righteousness into daily life.

It is focused on the inside that overflows to how we pray, how we relate to others and how we make decisions.

It is a life that desires to elevate Christ in all aspects of life.

The spiritual life is a beautiful thing for Christians. Unbelievers will not appreciate it. But at the Bema, that will be the basis for rewards. What did we do with the time He has given us?
