Invest in your children

Our children are our greatest treasure. Yet most of the time we act as if they are for granted. We are busy earning a living that we forgot they are actually living.

Sa halip na personal na tutukan ang kanilang edukasyon, pinagkatiwala natin ito sa iba. Naiintindihan kong tayo ay laging abala at mas efficient na mga may mga trained persons to take over teaching our children. Pero pati ba naman ang espirituwal na edukasyon nila? How can we raise children in the fear of the Lord if we’re not there to raise them.

What our children need is not more money but a present parent. The sad thing is we’re absent when we need us most- during the formative years when they’re learning their beliefs and values.

Then we wonder why our Christian beliefs and values ended with us. They’re not being received and transmitted because they don’t think these are necessary. After all you give time to give them supplies but didn’t make an effort to teach them the Word of God. The lesson is bread is more important than every Word that proceeds the mouth of God.

We shouldn’t wonder that when the children leave the home, say they enter college, they leave the church either. They never internalized the doctrines we taught them. They think it is just a Sunday thing that people do to completely check the boxes. They don’t have bearing in our daily lives and on our decision making processes.

Of course there are faithful parents who carefully and tirelessly teach the Word of God to their children but the children still rejected them anyway. We’re not talking about that. Children have volition and can reject truth.

We’re talking about parents who turn nights into days yet won’t spend a second teaching them God’s Word. We trach them religion, do all the external things so the people can’t say anything about and to us, but not the spiritual transformation that comes from learning and applying doctrine. How can we? We’re so busy.

If you’re to busy to teach your children how to have eternal life and how to enjoy it abundantly, you’re too busy. For the wrong things. Or at least for the secondary things.

If we leave a gap to their spiritual education, the world will happily fill the gap. The world, through media, schools, and social institutions, will happily take up the slack. We shouldn’t ne surprised they are more involved with the culture than with Christ.

Imagine spending your life on your children only to lose them to hell because you didn’t teach them to believe on Jesus for eternal life. Or making your children the number one in this life yet the least in the kingdom. In my book, that is failed parenting.

If we really treasure our children well prepare them for the big day- when Christ comes to rule, we’d be happy to see them rule with Him. That’s successful parenting. That will only happen if we make sure they have eternal life by faith alone in Christ alone and if we make sure they’re growing in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
