Identity in Christ

Do not judge me by my past mistakes. Mayroon akong mas recent. Iyon ang gamitin natin!

Salty? Unfortunately this is the reality of many people. They are judged and defined by their past. They are judged and defined by their mistakes. They are judged and defined by their sins.

But if you believe in Jesus for eternal life you have a new identity, John 3:16. You are now part of the family of God. You are declared (not made) righteous. Your are forgiven. You are removed from Adam and placed in Christ. This is your new identity. You are part of a new creation.

Your sins are paid for in the Cross. You are dead to them and you should reckon that as your daily reality. They should not defined you.

Nakalulungkot na may mga taong sa halip na tulungan kang bumangon sa pagkalugmok ay tatapakan ka pa. Ipamumukha nila ang iyong nakalipas. In their opinion you are hopeless at walang chance na magbago. Linis na linis sila sa kanilang sarili napapatanong ka kung anong sabon ang kanilang ginagamit.

Paul is the chief of sinners. Yet God used him to author 13 or 14 (if you count Hebrews) of the Epistles. God used him to turn the world upside down. Apparently if you are still alive, God has a purpose for you.

I am a fornicator (nag-live-in kami ni Misis bago ikasal). But I am still alive. God has a purpose for me. If you are offended by my past, I will be glad that you are not part of my present. Sabi ni Paul sa Philippians 3:13-14 [13]Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, [14]I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Hindi ko na maibabalik ang nakalipas pero ang future ay sinusulat pa. Ang present ay maaari pang ma-redeem. If we walk by means of the Spirit, abide in Christ, let His Word richly dwell in us and transform our thinking, we can still be used by God.

I refused to be defined by sin or by my past. I am a Christian. My identity is Christ. God enabling, I will live for Christ and death will be a gain. He exhange His life for me at the Cross, I aim to exhange my old life for His new resurrection life in my daily life. I am aware that that is positionally true of me. I want to experience its power in my life.

Believe in Him, John 3:16 and be saved, Acts 16:31. God is in the business of pursuing and saving sinners. He is in the business of transforming sinners to saints, of making enemies into sons. Sin is not our identity. Christ is.
