So tired
Serving God is supposed to be the highest calling in life. Yet most of the time we're drained and exhausted.
Maybe what exhaust us is not the service itself but with what energy we are serving Him.
If we serve Him with the energy of the flesh, we'll be exhausted. Human energy is not enough to power Christian service.
If we serve Him using the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, every service is an empowering experience.
If you think about it, it makes sense. Most of the things that God asked require supernatural energy.
Forgiving others? Impossible on our own. We'd rather get even than forgive. Loving the unlovable? Impossible on our own. We tend to love only those who benefit us. Being joyful in the midst of suffering? Impossible, we'd rather murmur than be thankful.
Anything that you can do on your own is not the spiritual life. It is just religion.
The spiritual life is a supernatural life that requires supernatural energy.
Attending Bible studies does not require divine energy. Some unbelievers are more faithful than Christians in coming to church.
Loving and forgiving those who do us wrong- now that requires supernatural energy. We can't do it on our own. We'd rather avenge ourselves.
The reason why we're exhausted is we're trying to reduce the spiritual life into a series of works. And like Martha we realize our energy is not enough, specially when the flesh keeps on whispering that the other doesn't care that you are bustling in service.
But if we stop being religious and sit at His feet, and learn and grow, we'll learn that what He asked is development of character that manifests itself in service to Him and others. You don't have to fill your calendar with religion. You just need to be available.
The difference it makes when we realize this. Our service will be empowering, and not burdensome.
