Praying for Others

(Stole this photo from a friend. Meditation is mine.)

Praying (Intercession and Supplication) for each other is a privilege. While not all prayers are intercessory and supplications, both are major parts of our spiritual life. Praying recognizes dependence on Someone else who can meet whatever the need is at the present. Prayer tells God, "I want to talk to you, will you listen?" Of course He actually knew what the prayer is about but He wanted to hear it anyway. This is us learning to access power beyond ourselves. One may object but if He knew it why will He want you to pray for it? Why not simply give what is in your hearts? Of course He can do that. But then we are robbed of the happiness in seeing our prayers answered. How are we to know that God answers our prayers if we did not pray? Knowing a need, praying for it, and receiving an answer, boosts our confidence in the God who answered prayers. This we will lost if God simply drop all our needs even before we need them.

Sometimes a fellow believer is in need and he cannot pray for he did not know how to vocalize it other than some groans that cannot be understood. The Bible assured us that even then the Holy Spirit understood what the request is and relay it to the Father. More importantly, if we see another believer who groans and groans for he lost the ability to vocalize it (it must be too much), we were given the privilege to pray for him. What he cannot put into words, we can speak for him. This makes us part of each others' lives. In the time when people lost hope and alienated from each other, prayer affords us the opportunity to be one with mind and spirit with fellow members of the Royal Family of God. If we'll be together in eternity, we might as well learn how to live together now. And if you can afford it, may be extend your pocket books to his needs. That is a privilege.
